Abstract

The paper presents general equations for the energy stored and the energy dissipated in the deformation of a linear viscoelastic material. The equations can be particularized to any Laplace transformable strain or stress excitation. Some concequences of the application of the equations to harmonic and to triangular strain excitation (hysteresis) are discussed.
