Remote sensing has been shown to posses many desirable features from both the civilian and military viewpoint. The development and integration of these features into operational systems must be undertaken to provide new and comprehensive data sources. Current remote sensing provides, at the very least, a partial solution to Australia's data acquisition problems. The situation will only improve as technology upgrades specifications like pixel size, spectral bands, frequency, cost and analysis software. Due to the large coverage of each scene, and the relative speed with which image processing could be undertaken, remote sensing is well-suited to providing an alterntive to aerial photography. -from Authors
