Abstract

I open this chapter with a summary of the two conferences on Great Migrations and the goals set forward by the funding institutions. I then step beyond the boundaries of these two conferences and, indeed, beyond the rest of this volume. I present a model for social development based on cultural drift and expansive human migrations across the Pacific Ocean sometime in the mid-Holocene. In this vein, I link cultural traits, specifically myths and linguistic symbols and phrases from South Asia to the New World.
