Abstract

The science and technology of absorbency (absorption of aqueous fluid by porous media or, more specifically, by fibrous systems) are examined in 10 chapters (abstracted individually in World Textile Abstracts, see abstracts 1985/5774-5777, 5921, 6019, 6099, 6124, 6133, and 6134) dealing with : the scientific principles of absorbency and structure/property relationships; material technology including super-absorbents, nonwoven, natural and synthetic fibres and surfactants; absorbency measurement technique; and technology perspectives. The book is intended for both academic and industrial scientists engaged in research and development on absorbency and absorbent materials dictated by the rapid expansion in the market for disposable absorbent products. The book is provided with a subject index and there are 1250 references.
