Abstract

In this presidential address a brief summary of the biologic functions of the skin is given. Experiments of the topical application of anticholinergics are discussed. The possibilities and problems of topical treatment of pigmentary disorders, epidermal cell reproduction, control of sebaceous gland function and control of hair growth are surveyed.
