Abstract

The present work intends to analyze the applicability standard of the public governance practices recommended by IFAC in the Federal Institutes of the Southern Region of Brazil, using a descriptive and exploratory research, which uses, as methodological procedures, documentary research and content analysis, considering a group of six Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology. The results indicate that the Federal Institutes present a great similarity in their management formats, and there were no significant differences in the applicability of IFAC recommendations. The study also identified that the most fragile sub-categories (which adopt less governance criteria) are communication with stakeholders and roles and responsibilities. However, in general, federal institutes are considered to be seeking to establish governance practices, by showing that, among the possible criteria to analyze, these institutions fulfill, at least, 29 of the 39 questions suggested by IFAC.
