Neuropsychology can be depicted as having a long history and a short past. As early as 400 BC, Hippocrates conjectured a correlation of behavioral observations with possible anatomic localizations, and later Galen related the anatomic localizations to the brain. Although there were occasional detours and distractions, Gall's early-19th-century chronological hypotheses served as the focus of exploration for a time.
