Chlorine Isotope Characteristics of Extraterrestrial Material

Abstract

The earliest chlorine isotope compositions of meteorites were determined by Magenheim et al. (1994, 1995). These data, with values in the range from +2.7 and +4 ‰ were at that time considered as being intermediate between mantle and crust values and were used to determine differentiation of chlorine isotopes between the mantle and the crust of the earth, as it was considered that the chlorine isotope composition in these meteorites represented primordial chloride.
