Human walking has been studied extensively by many investigators from various disciplines, including those of anatomy, kinesiology, neurophysiology, and biomechanics. The historical development of this branch of biological science since the pre-Renaissance era has been thoroughly reviewed [1,2,3]. Although gait analysis, or assessment of gait, has been pursued for a long period of time, our knowledge concerning human locomotion is far from complete.
