The adoption of a collective approach on the part of local authorities with responsibilities for coastal management in England and Wales is discussed. In this way what is happening at a particular stretch of coastline can be looked at in the context of a larger region. The activities of the Cardigan Bay Group are considered as an example of the group approach. Problems encountered at Meironnydd are described. (D.W.Taylor)
