Virtualization provides increased control and flexibility on how resources are allocated to applications. However, common resource provisioning mechanisms do not fully use these advantages; either they provide limited support for applications demanding quality of service, or the resource allocation complexity is high. To address these issues we developed Themis, a market-based application management platform. By limiting the coupling between the applications and resource management, Themis can support diverse types of applications and performance goals while ensuring maximized resource usage. In this paper we present the performance of Themis when users execute batch applications with different Service Level Objectives such as deadlines. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
