Sustainability indicators are instruments that allow the analysis and verification of sustainable development in a multidimensional way. The Municipal Sustainable Development Indicator (IDMS) makes it possible to systematically assess the sociocultural, environmental, economic and political-institutional dimensions of a region. The general objective of the research was to evaluate the occurrence of associations between IDMS performance and the receipt of royalties from Itaipu Binacional in the immediate geographic regions of Toledo, Marechal Candido Rondon and Foz do Iguaçu. The methodology adopted was documental and qualitative-quantitative. As a result, it made it possible to identify areas with greater sensitivity and lack of public policies. The IDMS showed that the intermediate regions immediate to Foz do Iguaçu, Toledo and Marechal Cândido Rondon present a sustainable development index on alert, with dimensions and subdimensions at critical levels. The best results found were in the sociocultural subdimensio.
