Many women report experiences of distress, suffering or violence during childbirth. Perinatal advocacy groups also call this “obstetric violence”. Few studies are available on the perceptions of perinatal community-based workers about this issue. Through focus groups with perinatal community-based workers from Quebec (n = 29), this study aims to document representations of obstetric violence, the difficulties they encountered and the strategies they used when facing these situations. Results contribute to a better understanding of this form of violence against women and to a reflection on the efforts needed to promote the well-being of women during this important life period.
