Despite the increased enrollment of students of color in Texas schools, many school leaders still need to become more knowledgeable and pedagogically prepared to better serve the needs of diverse students. This chapter highlights how current school practices are not sufficiently responsive to the cultural and linguistic assets of students from diverse backgrounds. In this chapter, the authors offer practical strategies and frameworks to facilitate a change process in schools and communities. By drawing on these strategies and frameworks, school leaders can engage in a grassroots approach to create more socially just schools and educational experiences for students of color.
