Abstract

Skin conditions are the most common reason for patient visits to veterinary hospitals.1 Yet dermatologic signs in dogs and cats can lead clinicians and pet owners into a maze of diagnostic differentials and treatment trial and error that lasts weeks, if not months. Pet owners beg for symptomatic relief for their pets. They desperately want the scratching, licking, rubbing, fur staining, scabbing, and overall fussiness to stop. Something is driving the pet crazy, which in turn drives the pet owner even crazier - the constant thump, thump, thump of feet, the jingling of collars, the slurping that never ends.
