Abstract

The spatiotemporal distribution of resources that invaders require for their growth and reproduction is a key factor in controlling success of invasion (Davis et al, 2000). The abundance of abiotic resources, such as water supply and nutrient levels, may fluctuate due to variable climatic condition and disturbance regime (e.g., drought, flood, or fire regimes). Therefore the intensity of competition for these limited resources varies resulting in temporal fluctuation of a community's susceptibility to invasion (Davis and Pelsor 2001). © 2006 Springer.
