Abstract

The spine is the most frequently affected part of the skeleton by metastases, which accounts for approximately 90% of malignant tumors of the spine. Due to the aging of the population, the incidence of spinal metastases is anticipated to increase, as is the surgical treatment of these tumors. The treatment of spinal metastases, both surgical and medical, has advanced through the years. As the treatment of spinal metastases is mainly palliative, optimal surgical procedures with little morbidity and satisfactory quality of life are preferred. Minimally invasive surgery is therefore currently the most attractive treatment option.
