Abstract

The duodenal switch procedure was described by DeMeester and colleagues in 1987 as a surgical solution for primary bile reflux gastritis or to decrease the postgastrectomy symptoms seen in patients after distal gastrectomy and gastroduodenostomy. Despite quite favorable outcomes reported in the literature, BPD-DS procedure has not been spread world-wide. One of the reasons for this is that the procedure is difficult to perform laparoscopically. In this chapter we aim to describe the laparoscopic technique for duodenal switch.
