Abstract

The paper examines and analyzes the phenomenon of internationalization of retailing in the Asia-Pacific region. It looks at motivating factors which have driven overseas retailers to this region, discusses their entry strategies and the impact of their operations on the local economy. The trend is expected to grow stronger in coming years. It promises immense growth opportunities to overseas retailers, especially those willing to help developing nations in this region in creating basic wholesaling and retailing infrastructure, The future winners are likely to be those who have developed a distinctive business concept and who can manage the spatial and cultural gaps with patience, caution and compromise.
