Abstract

Jesús María is a municipality in the department of Santander (Colombia) that exemplifies how rurality presents new challenges to establish territorial development processes. From the field work and analysis of sources, a series of actors and territorial attributes were identified that converge in two categories of analysis: peasant associativity and territorial identity. The territorialization processes in the municipality are evidence of the interest of the peasantry in an alternative development to extractivism and traditional agricultural production. Despite the limitations, these processes could be aligned as a model of territorial development in the municipality.
