Abstract

Many medications are useful for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), although only two are FDA approved. However, active duty service members have restrictions as to which medications they may deploy. If a service member cannot deploy, their career is effectively ended. Medications also have significant sexual side effects, which impair their acceptance by service members. Weight gain can also be a problem, which in itself can threaten a career. Strategies to minimize these side effects are emphasized.
