A contrast is evident between the historical, literary, and cultural criticism, which is dominant in Western academies and which privileges the written text, and the Asian hermeneutical method that takes into account the multifaceted sources and resources, written and unwritten, of the Asian context. In light of these sources and resources, the author introduces a number of Asian hermeneutics with a view to enriching the Western hermeneutical methods. © 2006, Sage Publications.
