Abstract

Until recently, participant observation and other forms of fieldwork were taught through apprentice relationships. Increasingly, formal courses are being taught to initiate novices into the field. This paper outlines one approach to teaching and invites the kind of dialogue and debate concerning research methods teaching that appears in the invited comments that follow.
