Abstract

There is now a high level of acceptance amongst biodeterioration biologists and technologists in the paints and biocides industries, that deterioration of paints through biological attack is a fact of life. This view is not widely understood or accepted by users of paints nor by some producers of paint products. Many specifiers of paints also remain unconvinced that the service life might be extended by improving resistance to microbial attack.
