Abstract

Nusantara Islam is a concept of Islam that was born as a form of counter to transnational Islamic movement and Islamic radicalism. Transnational Islamic movements such as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hizbut Tahrir and so on are considered to make friendly, tolerant and moderate forms of Islam in Indonesia radical Islam. In addition, Nusantara Islam is triggered due to concerns about local culture that is increasingly aggravated with the current of globalization. With the value of Islam which is mercy li al-'a>lami>n should the concept of Islam Nusantara can be accepted by the whole of Islam. But this concept is not independent of the pros and cons. By using the theory of advocacy, this article is expected to be able to answer the reasons for Nusantara Islam as a form of advocation of culture, especially local culture in Indonesia.
