Abstract

In this paper, we are interested in the actors placing problem on a distributed architecture (transputer network and station network) and the management of communications between the different active entities on the network. This work takes place as part of the MO2 project [1] which has the goal of implementing an integrated object-oriented environment for distributed architecture systems. The main feature of the suggested method of placing is the use of basic elements called forms in order to group the actors of an application. The combination of the basic forms (pipes, matrix, trees) allows for the construction of various application architectures. Forms are managed in the same way as the other objects supported by the system. Hence, they are three types of objects to be placed on the network; actors, forms and virtual communication channels. The aim of the method is to find a balance between the policy which consists of minimizing the communication cost and the policy which tries to balance the load of the network. Forms can be dynamically moved in time. Therefore applications like network neuronal applications can be easily supported.
