Chapter 4 presented fundamental concepts of vision sensor technologies in terms of photoreceptors, pixels, and signal processing circuits. This chapter provides a survey of vision sensor architectures and physical structures. Typical image sensor floorplans as well as exotic geometries realized over the past two decades are presented. Furthermore, this chapter presents typical pixel readout strategies and interfaces. Finally, a brief introduction to vision system-on-chip is given. © 2010 Springer-Verlag US.
