Abstract

To the Editor: Yih et al. (Feb. 6 issue)(1) report that a rotavirus vaccine was associated with approximately 1.5 excess cases of intussusception per 100,000 recipients of the first dose among infants in the United States. Changes in temporal trends in the incidence of intussusception have been described in a few studies based on hospitalization data.(2)-(5) This surveillance allows a historical baseline view of the incidence of intussusception.
