Abstract

The essay discusses the purpose, moral aspects, and methodology of teaching history. An overview is presented of historical consciousness, moral education, and Remembrance Day in Canada, and a description of educational philosophy in terms of critical thinking, cognition, and communities of memory. The author mentions the importance of learning from the past, experimental education in Vancouver, British Columbia, and cites scholars Peter Seixas and Roger Simon.
