This chapter will consider the Australian television series Rake (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016) as an example of ‘HBO-style television’. Like the television series produced by HBO-from The Sopranos (1999-2007) to Game of Thrones (2011-)-Rake is an example of a new form of television with its own distinctive mode of narration. This chapter uses Rake as a case study through which to explore the ways in which the mode of narration employed in HBO series has influenced television made in Australia in the 2000s.
