The nervous system of cephalopods, because of its relative simplicity compared to that of vertebrates, has long been favored for investigations relating brain structure to function. The octopus, rated by some as the most intelligent of all the invertebrates, is particularly suited to experimentally relating the brain structure to the animal’s behavior.
