Abstract

Impacts and vibrations are common in the engineering fields, which leads the impact wear and erosion wear become one of the prime reasons for the destruction and failure of key components. The development and application of surface engineering technologies, especially the surface coating technology, effectively improve this situation, resulting in a prolonged service life by giving better performance on the material surface. The impact wear and erosion wear of coatings are not only depended on materials, but also affected by the angle, temperature and other service conditions, which is a complex process of multiple factors. Experimental studies are usually used to obtain reliable data and results, and the development of test device is briefly introduced, as well as the characterization methods of impact performance. The future research trends of the impact and erosion behavior of hard coating are also prospected.
