Abstract

Adm inistration o f sodium [l,2-14C2]oxaloacetate and sodium [l-14C]acetate to Scilla maritim a plants yielded labelled scillirosid. A systematic degradation of scillirosid in d icated that the α-pyrone ring of the bufadienolide is form ed by the cond en satio n o f a pregnane derivative (derived from m evalonic acid via squalene) and one m olecule of oxaloacetic acid. © 1984, Walter de Gruyter.
