Abstract

As the deployment of the cable TV (CATV) network becomes ubiquitous, the CATV networks have emerged as one of primary technologies to provide broadband access to the home. Due to the natural of CATV network - the radical asymmetric bandwidth, the upstream channel is critical to allocating and scheduling. The objective of this paper is to propose a new adaptive contention period control algorithm in HFC networks to improve the utilization and throughput of the upstream bandwidth. Through simulation, we show that in any cases, our adaptive method performs better than MCNS DOCSIS. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2003.
