Abstract

The paper is focused on the non-technological aspects of map production in atlas cartography, while the evaluation was carried out mainly with respect to the traditional Czech cartography. The concept of non-technological aspects there is presented: there are identified 14 aspects (economic, aesthetic, ethic, geoinformatic, historical, conceptual, legislative, methodological, organizational, political, psychological, sociological, user and visualization), divided into three main groups—social aspects, professional aspects and user aspects. The questionnaire study resulted into the evaluation of importance of these non-technological aspects, in the opinion of users, creators and producers of cartographic works. The benefit of this work is a series of findings that may affect the attitudes and opinions of authors and producers of cartographic works. Another potential benefit is to popularize the research methods, through which it is possible to evaluate different aspects of map-making and knowledge gained is then possible to implement the process of cartographic production in order to increase efficiency, usefulness and clarity of works for their users.
