The ability to participate independently in activities of daily living (ADLs) for the individual who has cerebral palsy (CP) determines opportunity for lifelong independence. Depending on the severity of the motor impairment, the child with CP may have limited ability to perform ADLs. This chapter works to address key areas of ADL with strategies of management from basic tool use, to minor adaptations, to high technology options. Although not all children will gain full independence in all areas, any ability to actively participate in ADLs helps reduce reliance on others for support in a few areas.
