Abstract

Thermodynamics of micelle formation is treated in terms of an equilibrium represented by nA = An; particular emphasis is placed on the temperature dependence of the critical micelle concentration and the enthalpy of micellization. It is shown that thermal expansion of the solvent must be considered in such calculations and equations are presented for the calculations of both ΔH0 and ΔCp0 of micellization. Differences in free energies and entropies of micellization based on molarities, molalities, and mole fractions are also discussed. © 1980, All rights reserved.
