Abstract

The causes of spontaneous vitreous hemorrhage are well known. Thefrequency of the various etiologies of these hemorrhages has beenreported by several authors (Winslow, ’80, Butner, ’82, Morse,’74). Diabetes has been shown to be the most common cause of spontaneousvitreous hemorrhage, with the second and third most common causesretinal tears and rhegmatogenous retinal detachments. The densityof the hemorrhages in these cases varied from microscopic blood tovery dense hemorrhage. Echographic examination of these latter casesis usually performed to evaluate the posterior segment.
