Abstract

Studies over ZrO2:Pr nanoparticles distribution kinetics were performed. It was found that excitation of material may occur at 488 nm as it directly populates the 3P0 sublevel of the Pr3+ ions. Also, multiphoton excitation allows using the near infrared region tissue transparency window. The suspensions made with ZrO2:Pr nanoparticles of various sizes appeared stable by means of zeta potential. Nanoparticles administrated to mice were distributed to the majority of tissues and organs, including rapid transfer through the blood-brain barrier. It was observed tendency for accumulation of nanoparticles in the cells of the aqueduct of midbrain. Two possible pathways of nanoparticle elimination from the brain were postulated.
