Abstract

Case studies from the Philippines are presented on: pesticides in shallow groundwater underneath irrigated rice fields; and rice field pesticides in runoff draining into a freshwater body. It is concluded that in both sites groundwater in the shallow aquifers is receiving a larger number of pesticides. Drainage outflows are discharging some the pesticides used on rice into the freshwater body of Laguna de Bay.
