Abstract

Diseases of the respiratory mucosa may affect both the nose and the chest to a variable degree. Although the lesions may be similar in pathogenesis they produce markedly different symptoms in the nose and the chest. While hay fever and allergic rhinitis may be the commonest diseases, similar symptoms may be produced by non-atopic causes.
