Elimination disorders include disorders of repeated voiding of urine (enuresis) or stool (encopresis) outside of the toilet beyond the age when continence is expected. In both disorders, the voiding can be intentional or involuntary and needs to have occurred for at least 3 months. Most children with these disorders may have a medical or physiological reason for the disorder, which needs to be addressed in the context of behavioral treatments. Additionally, these disorders are often associated with family stress, embarrassment, and conflict, which will require treatment. In this chapter, the authors present case studies followed by a review of the evidence-based treatments for each disorder. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved)
