Abstract

Although scholars and managers have realized that knowledge workers in knowledge-based organizations should be motivated effectively, it seems that some of the motivate mechanisms they proposed have not worked well. The reason may be that those mechanisms are for all knowledge workers under the assuming that their motivation factors are the same. In fact, knowledge workers have different kinds, and every kind of knowledge workers have different needs in their different career stages. Therefore, the motivate mechanism should not be the same. In this paper, different kinds and motivate factors of knowledge workers are analyzed, and then motivate mechanisms are put forwarded for different kinds of knowledge workers. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
