Abstract

The computer industry has recently moved towards seamless integration of planning and execution systems to integrate software across the entire organization. Integrating planning systems with manufacturing execution systems (MES) creates an entity whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Without the data provided by MES, planning systems are functionally limited. Similarly, an MFS without a planning system cannot be used to its full potential. The attendant interface requirements are discussed in the article.
