Abstract

Aluminum (Al) toxicity is closely related to soil acidity due to low pH. Plants that are poisoned by Al will experience deficiency of N, P, K Ca, and Mg, so that growth is stunted and unable to produce. Considering that Indonesia has a very large source of germplasm, it is still necessary to conduct tests on local upland rice varieties against Al stress. The objective of this research is to determine the level of resistance of several local upland rice varieties to aluminum stress. The research was conducted at the Laboratory and Screen house of the Faculty of Agriculture, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto. There are two methods used in this study, namely by using nutrient culture and by using hematoxylin. The rice varieties used in this study were: V1 = Hawara Bunar; V2 = IR64; V3 = Padi Kuning; V4 = Selegeng; V5 = Brentel; V6 = Marus. The Al concentration treatments used in this study were: A0 = Al 0 ppm; A1 = Al 45 ppm. The results of this study indicated that the control variety Hawara Bunar showed the highest PAR value of 0.72 and the lowest intensity of root coloring was 1.65. Meanwhile, Padi Kuning had the highest TTR, BKAR, and BKTR values, namely 0.68, 0.71, and 0.41 respectively, and was included in the moderate class in the root staining experiment.
