Abstract

Currently, development of high technology parts such as semi-conductor elements, optical elements, electron-elements, parts of an automobile, aircraft and satellites component is increased very actively. Micromachining is the foundation of the technology to realize such micro parts. Micromachining is very various with EDM, LBM, ECM and USM etc. Among others EDM is one of the most powerful methods for micromachining in metal and in other electrically conductive materials. However, when machining a workpiece with EDM, heat affected zone is formed at the surface of the workpiece, burr is formed at the edge of the workpiece. Especially, burr cause of many problems in inspection, assembly, edge finishing precision micro parts. Despite these many problems, state of the art of burr formation by EDM is not enough yet. Thus, this study was carried out an experiment to observe burr formation in several different materials by EDM, particularly was carried out an experiment to observe burr formation by EDM parameters. As a result, in this study was observed effect of burr size, shape and formation mechanism of burr by EDM.
