A fatal case of obscure spastic paraplegia in a Punjabi woman aged 64 years and resident in Great Britain is described. Lathyrism or Charcot's Tabes dorsal spasmodique are suggested as likely causes. The main features of the case are described and a plea is made to remember lathyrism in differential diagnosis in Indian patients.
