Abstract

When plate girders are built up by welding, the initial imperfections such as residual stresses and initial deflections inevitably remain in the thin plate-elements of both flanges and web. If the influence of the initial imperfections on the buckling and ultimate strength of plate girders can be clarified, high reliability will be attained for safety of structure.
