Abstract

The anatomical proximity of the rectum and genitourinary organs lends itself to overlapping disease manifestations, and this should be considered by the respective specialties. There exists the unavoidable tendency to make a differential diagnosis based on one's own specialty, but this has the unfortunate potential of resulting in the mismanagement of a patient. In this chapter we discuss the urologic presentations of rectal disease as well as the rectal presentations of urologic disease. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
