Tailor’s Bunionectomy

Abstract

A bunionette deformity, or tailor’s bunion, is a ­painful prominence on the lateral aspect of the fifth metatarsal head. A bunionette is a problem similar to a ­bunion, except that a bunionette occurs on the lateral side of the foot. These lesions often were present on tailors, whose cross-legged sitting posture on benches resulted in pressure on the lateral side of the foot. This lesion was described in 1949 by Davies. This deformity is three to ten times more common in women than in men.
